摘要

The issue addressed in this paper is: on the basis of the labor market results of its graduates, should senior secondary education in Indonesia be expanded. The main source of data is a tracer study for a cohort of senior secondary school graduates covering the first two years after finishing school. Indonesian unemployment is mainly of persons who are in the midst of a long spell of unemployment, most of whom are young persons who are in the process of going from school to work like those described in the tracer study. The evidence is that virtually all senior secondary graduates who want work are eventually absorbed into jobs, at pay rates that are substantially higher than among those with lesser amounts of education.
