During the dissolved air flotation with partial pressurized flow recycling there is no decrease in respiration activity and thus no harm to the activated sludge resulted. When working with full-flow pressurization it is important that no shearing affects the activated sludge, since this appears to influence the biological activity. The tests also showed that with proper procedure, flotation is the optimal treatment of activated sludge when separated and returned to the aeration tank, thus providing no anaerobic or oxygen-poor conditions for the activated sludge.
