摘要

The study was stimulated by discussions on the format for the proposed FRN (Swedish National Research Council) Conference on the inherent conflicts in transferring technology from developed to less developed countries. In satisfying the main objective of the study some answers to these questions are suggested. The argument is presented as follows: In section 2 recent developments in the construction sectors of Sweden and the United Kingdom are examined in order to provide a perspective for evaluating the activities of their architects, consulting engineers and contractors in developing countries. In section 3 profiles of the activities of those architects, consultants and contractors interviewed are developed for domestic, other European, Middle East, and Developing Country markets. In section 4 details of the 'choice of technique' process for specific projects are described. In section 5 the mechanisms for the transfer of construction technologies from developed to developing countries are described and analyzed. Finally, in section 6 the main conclusions -- and some tentative answers to the questions posed in this section -- are presented.
