The auditory and the phonetic coding of speech was investigated by studying: (1) the role of detectors in speech processing; (2) the auditory and phonetic processing of vowels; (3) the role of context and high order properties in speech processing; (4) the nature of left-hemisphere processing of speech; (5) the relationships between various levels of processing for speech; and (6) further detailing of the auditory processing of speech and complex non-speech signals.
