The University of Southern California Urban Center was formally established on February 10, 1978. The activities of the Urban University Center are now being divided into two major areas: Commercial/Industrial technical assistance and Overall Economic Development technical assistance. In its third year program operation, major emphasis was placed on providing technical assistance to the manufacturing sector of the small business community. This sector provides the greatest opportunity for job stabilization and job development producing, the greatest impact within the small business community. The managerial and technological assistance services that were available to Center clients for existing business operations and new ventures, included management, production and marketing. The activities of the Center in the third year therefore, indicates that the Urban University Center program is playing an increasingly successful role in the upgrading of the economic and industrial base of the Greater Los Angeles area.
