This training manual for women in government and politics is specifically geared to administrators and managers working in municipal, county, and State governments. The package contains workshop leaders' guide materials and exercises and packet handouts for participants. Workshop adaptations are included for political / administrative audiences. Six workshops deal with power, public image / private image, managing the media, saying ''no'' and delegating, sexuality, and time and staff management. Each workshop contains exercises to help participants examine attitudes, values, expectations, and skills that are influenced by stereotyped views of women. Some of these exercises provide an opportunity for participants to develop their managerial skills. Specific strategies are presented for dealing with individuals and situations which arise when women are treated according to gender rather than as elected officials or managers. The manual also contains problem definitions focusing on sexual harassment, sexism, sexism in language, the Queen Bee syndrome, women stereotyping other women, fear of success, overprotection by male colleagues, and personal / career dilemmas. Coping strategies and informational materials for workshop packets, sample evaluation forms, an annotated 14 - item bibliography, and suggested resources are included.
