摘要

The psychobiology of reproductive behavior in doves is studied. It has long been thought that gonadal development in the ring dove occurs only in response to a combined stimulation of lighting and the presence of males. Implicit in this notion is that photostimulation alone is not effective in stimulating gonadal growth. This study firmly established that doves kept in isolation under standard laboratory lighting conditions show a slow but definite change in gonadal activity and gonadotrophin secretions. It is concluded that the spontaneous recovery of gonadal size in ring doves exposed to 8L:k6D is controlled by the hypothalamus and does not involve changes in the functional capacity of the pituitary gland or of the gonads.
