This report describes the measurement of the direct tensile and unconfined compressive strength of samples cut from stabilized roadbases in Kenya. The test methods used are described, and the strength of the samples is compared with the performance of the roads. The report concludes that although the bases have lost tensile strength in service, they have not suffered serious structural damage and with routine maintenance these pavements should continue to perform satisfactorily.
