摘要

The environmental setting of the proposed trans-Alaska pipeline system consists of the natural physical systems, such as physiography and geology, climate, air quality, water resources, vegetation, insects, and fish and wildlife. Altogether these systems comprise the largest remaining wilderness and semi-wilderness of the United States. Superimposed on these natural systems are man's socioeconomic systems, such as those related to land use and to the population and economy. Environmental baseline information was gathered on these systems and chapters prepared for the document as one step in the environmental impact analysis of the construction and operation of the proposed trans-Alaska pipeline system.
