Tordon (Picloram) is a broad spectrum herbicide with considerable potential to control 'hard-to-kill' roadside weeds such as wild garlic and milkweed. The greater herbicidal effectiveness of Tordon is attributed to its greater mobility and resistance to breakdown within the plant. Tests show that Tordon is combination with 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T is more effective than any of these chemicals applied individually. An enhancement of activity was observed when the herbicides were applied with dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) as a carrier. Greenhouse, field and laboratory studies are continuing to determine optimum ratios for maximum interaction. (BPR abstract)
