摘要

Because disease in a primary factor in the population dynamics of the gypsy moth, disease-causing agents are biologically feasible as an alternative to DDT. Commercial preparations of a microbial insecticide, Bacillus thuringiensis varthuringiensis Berliner (referred to from here on as Bt), have been available since the late 1950s for control of leaf-feeding lepidopterous pests. To explore the possibilities of using Bt as an means to control the gypsy moth, a series of field and laboratory tests were begun in 1961 by the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station at its Forest Insect Laboratory at New Haven, Conn. This paper is a report on the techniques used in those tests.
