On stretching annealed Marlex 50 polyethylene films one can observe the appearance of cross striations in approximately 45°angles and the samples become cloudy in the region of the elongation. Upon imbibition of the stretched samples with solvents of approximately the same re-fractive index as that of the polymer the cloudiness disappears.
