摘要

Previous work has shown that hyper¬kalemia is produced by severe prolonged hypercapnia in the dog, and that this increase in plasma potassium concentration is related to the cardiac arrhythmias and ventricular fibrillation that commonly follow rapid reversal of this hypercapnia (1, 2). In other experiments in which total plasma electrolyte composition was determined during and following 4 hours of hypercapnia, very little change in total plasma calcium was found (3)- However, it was still possible that changes in ionic calcium were taking place. Since the major portion of ultrafiltrable calcium is in the ionic form, it was decided to attempt to assay this fraction of plasma calcium in dogs during and following 4 hours of breathing high C02 mixtures.
