Hospital staff nurses provide patient care within a complex environment, relying on safety culture to support their efforts to keep patients safe. Because little is known about this work, the aim of this study was to describe the process by which hospital staff nurses keep patients safe, while constrained/enabled by sets of safety rules and resources in the organization.
