摘要

On a high bank of the King Salmon River, about 18 km upstream from Ugashik Bay on the Bering Sea side of the Alaska Peninsula, sits a massive archaeological site first occupied nearly 2000 years ago. This site, designated UGA-00052 in the Alaska Heritage Resource Survey (which we shorten to UGA-052), has seen repeated occupations including components associated with the Norton tradition, the Thule or Koniag tradition, and the recent historic period. This recent period includes ownership of the site as part of an Alaskan Native allotment (the Blandov allotment). The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (USBIA) initiated an archaeolgical survey and excavation as required by the National Historic Preservation Act prior to the planned sale of the allotment. This field work included a 2002 site evalutaion (Biddle 2002) that lead to a collaboration between the USBIA and Hamline University in 2003 (Hoffman and Biddle 2003) followed by a final season of excavation by the USBIA in 2004. This report summarizes the results of the 2003 and 2004 excavations at UGA-052 by the USBIA and Hamline University.
