摘要

Reducing the number of people who become infected with HIV is 1 of the 4 primary goals of the updated National HIV/AIDS Strategy of the United States (NHAS). This goal is to be achieved by implementing 3 important strategies for reducing HIV infections: (1) intensifying HIV prevention efforts in communities where HIV is most heavily concentrated, including blacks or African Americans (hereafter referred to as blacks); Hispanics or Latinos; gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (hereafter referred to as MSM); and persons who inject drugs (PWID); (2) expanding efforts to prevent HIV infection by using a combination of effective, evidence-based, scalable approaches; and (3) educating the general public about the threat of HIV infection and how to prevent it. State and local health departments, as well as federal agencies, are expected to monitor progress toward NHAS goals.
