The nuclear data community reviews experimental, theoretical and model data to determine 'best' values for various types of nuclear data. The 'best' values are then put into a library called an evaluation. Currently,there are two formats used to store evaluated data: the ENDL (Evaluated Nuclear Data Library) format used at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the ENDF (Evaluated Nuclear Data File) format used by the rest of the community. However, neither of these formats is suitable for use in deterministic transport codes. The conversion of evaluated data into a format suitable for a deterministic transport code,called processing, is done by ndfgen for the ENDL format and NJOY for the ENDF format. In this document we describe the first release of a new package, xndfgen, that replaces the legacy ndfgen processing. Future releases of xndfgen will support ENDF type data.
