摘要

Depending upon stocking rate and grazing system, livestock and wildlife can be compatible when grazing is carefully managed and wildlife needs are considered. However, to accomplish this land managers need information concerning how cattle impact vegetation structure in Missouri, and what vegetation characteristics are important to wildlife. Therefore, the authors' objectives were to determine the vegetation structure and floristic composition among continuous and rotational pastures, each with 4 different stocking rates, develop predictive equations relating vegetation measurements to abiotic factors, grazing frequency, timing of grazing, and stock density, and evaluate the relationships among descriptive vegetation and floristic composition to existing descriptive habitat data for ground nesting birds and small mammals.
