The conference Building Bridges VII: Assessing Policy Decisions and Their Impact on Health Care Delivery was held in Seattle, Washington on April 26-27, 2001. The conference was a collaboration of the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). Conference objectives included: discussing current research activities, results, and application of findings by health plans, purchasers, and the research community; exploring how health care policy makers use research to generate quality improvements in health care; examining how to effectively translate research findings into appropriate health care policies that have a positive impact on the quality of health care delivery; and assessing the impact of policy decisions on clinical practice and medical management. The conference featured a combination of general, concurrent, and poster session presentations by recognized experts from health plans, academia, and government agencies. The 250 attendees rated the educational value of the subject matter and the appropriateness content very highly.
