摘要

Membrane separation is a widely used process in separation of gases. The process is based on differences in diffusion of the different gases over the used membrane. Gases that diffuse faster become enriched on the permeate side of the membrane and gases which diffuse slower are enriched in the retentate side. The driving force for mass transfer over the membrane is created by using lower pressure on the permeate side and therefore lowering the partial pressures of the components involved. Because of this the retentate- and permeate sides are often called high- and low-pressure side respectively.
