摘要

The complexity and congestion of current transportation systems often produce211u001etraffic situations that jeopardize the safety of the people involved. These 211u001esituations vary from maintaining a safe distance behind a leading vehicle to 211u001esafety allowing a pedestrian to cross a busy street. Environmental sensing plays 211u001ea critical role in virtually all of these situations. Of the sensors available, 211u001evision sensors provide information that is richer and more complete than other 211u001esensors, making them a logical choice for a multisensor transportation system. In 211u001ethis report the authors propose robust detection and tracking techniques for 211u001eintelligent vehicle-highway applications where computer vision plays a crucial 211u001erole.
