This site-specific study describes the technical and economic feasibility of a211u001ebiomass gasification combined cycle producing heat and power for a typical Finish 211u001epulp and paper mill. The aim is to replace an old bark boiler by an IGCC 211u001e(Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) to enhance the economy and environmental 211u001eperformance of the power plant. The IGCC feasibility study is conducted for a 211u001epulp and paper integrate because of its suitable infrastructure for IGCC and a 211u001elarge amount of wood waste available at the site. For comparison, the feasibility 211u001eof an IGCC integrated to a pulp mill is also assessed. The operation and design 211u001eof the IGCC concept is based on a 20 MW(sub e) gas turbine (MW151). The heat of 211u001egas turbine exhaust gas is utilized in a HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator) of 211u001etwo pressure levels to generate steam for the pulp and paper mill and the steam 211u001eturbine. The IGCC power plant operates in condensing mode. The techno-economic 211u001eassessment of the biomass IGCC integrated to a pulp and paper mill or a pulp mill 211u001eindicated that the IGCC will be competitive compared to the conventional bark 211u001eboiler steam cycle. The IGCC integrated to a pulp and paper mill was slightly 211u001emore economical than the IGCC pulp mill integrate.
