This atlas illustrates the ultrastructure of juvenile stages of the soybean cyst211u001enematode, Heterodea glycines. It shows the transition from preparasitic to 211u001eparasitic juveniles and their relation to host tissues, which become modified to 211u001eform syncytia as specialized feeding sites. The electron micrographs are grouped 211u001einto subunits to emphasize various features of the nematode and host-parasite 211u001einteractions. Subunits include the stomatal region, the anterior neurosensory 211u001eorgans, esophagus and associated glands, and the intestine. Illustrations also 211u001einclude changes in nematode anatomy related to nematode development and early 211u001ehost responses. Each unit contains a brief introduction, micrographs, and their 211u001elegends. This handbook and a comprehensive compilation of previously published 211u001eelectron micrographs, combined with new data.
