The authors report on the improper inclusion of prisoners and deceased211u001eindividuals in food stamp housheolds (the value of benefits that a household 211u001ereceives is partially determined by the number of eligible household members) and 211u001eon the extent of trafficking. The authors will (1) provide an overview of the 211u001escope of fraud and abuse in the program, (2) discuss the ways computerized 211u001einformation can be used to identify and reduce it, and (3) comment on the 211u001epotential of the Chairman's draft legislation to reduce fraud and abuse in the 211u001eprogram.
