The section capacities of two different cross-sections, Section I ( a beam typecross-section) and Section II (a column type cross-section) were determined. Eight specimens of each cross-section were tested in a purpose-built test rig which comprised two interlinked actuators capable of applying axial load and bending moment in a constant ratio. This allowed the full experimental interaction curve to be determined. The end bearings allowed major axis rotations, however prevented minor axis and twist rotations. The specimens were prevented from buckling out-of-plane at mid-length causing failure by local buckling and in-plane bending.
