The abstract provides a brief description of the work at EPA's to apply211u001eartificial intelligence (AI) methods to control certain cobustion emissions. In 211u001erecent years, studies have been conducted to evaluate fuzzy logic and artificial 211u001eneural networks as means to improve the performance of combustion systems and 211u001einstrumentation to monitor those systems. A mission of EPA's is the application 211u001eof new technologies to the problem of preventing and controlling air pollution 211u001efrom combustion sources. One area of interest is the use of AI methods to improve 211u001ethe performance of existing air pollution control technologies, in terms of both 211u001eoperating and economic efficiencies.
