摘要

In this paper, the results are described of an experimental program in which the211u001einfluence of stitching fiber and stitching density on the failure strains of 211u001ecarbon fiber fabric/epoxy laminates, impregnated by Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), 211u001ewas investigated by carrying out static compression and tension tests. The 211u001eresults were compared to results of typical unidirectional prepreg specimens made 211u001ein the autoclave. The compression tests revealed that stitching did not result in 211u001ea significant improvement of allowable strain levels, due to the presence of 211u001ecircumferential roving reinforcements in the RTM fabric. The compression after 211u001eimpact tests showed that failure strain levels for stitched and unstitched RTM 211u001especimens are almost equal to failure strain levels for autoclave specimens. A 211u001estitching density of 4 stitches/sq cm will result in a small reduction of tension 211u001efailure strain. The stitching fiber type, Kevlar of Dyneema, has no influence on 211u001ethe failure strain levels.
