A historical archival research project covered the historic stage route overCottonwood Pass (5GN2664). The project was an effort to mitigate the potential affect of the present highway project on the cultural resource. The results of the project indicated that 5GN2664 appeared to be a remnant of the original Cottonwood Pass road. It was probably as old as the human occupation in the mountains. It has passed from trail, to freight road, to toll road, to county road, to abandoned-and-nearly-forgotton road. It was recommended as eligible for the National Register under Criterion A.
