The Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) of EPA's Science Advisory211u001eBoard (SAB), supplemented by expert consultants (together referred to as the 211u001e'Panel'), met on May 5-6, 1998 to review the February 1998 draft document, 211u001e'Health Assessment Document for Diesel Emissions' (PB98-124308), in a public 211u001emeeting in Research Triangle Park, NC. An SAB Subcommittee conducted an initial 211u001ereview of the diesel topic in 1990. Subsequently, CASAC reviewed the 1995 draft 211u001eand found it wanting. At the May 1998 meeting and in written comments provided to 211u001eEPA staff, the Panel assessed the adequacy of the present draft as an accurate 211u001estatement of current knowledge about the health effects of diesel exhaust inhaled 211u001ein the environment, and made numerous suggestions for improvement. The report 211u001edescribes the Panel's views in more detail, and contains its responses to the 211u001efour specific questions posed by EPA as a charge to the Panel.
