Several major points can be gleaned from the pilot study of a sample of 400 smallbusinesses from six states (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota) done in the Spring of 1996. Each point is summarized and its policy implications are discussed below. The data are useful in setting some broad parameters in assessing the amount of crime committed within and against small businesses.
