A review of swordfish research, fishing, processing, trade, and consumption inColombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Swordfish catches are minimal in Colombia, but Ecuador has initiated artisanal and commercial operations and Peruvian fishermen who once landed large quantities have resumed limited operations. This document examines historical developments through to the mid-1990s and provides some indication of future trends in the swordfish fishery. These country chapters are designed to provide readers with a detailed summary of available information concerning swordfishing and related fisheries. Important topics include: species, fishing grounds, catches, fleet, fishing gear, ports, companies, processing, transshipments, trade (exports and imports), domestic consumption, research, bycatch, foreign fishing, joint ventures, international relations, enforcement, and future trends. The document is extensively illustrated with maps, graphs, and photographs and includes detailed statistical appendices.
