Mass-impregnated HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) cables are just as reliableas high voltage, AC cables. However, there is still a lack of knowledge concerning HVDC cables. In addition , the tests for HVDC cables are less well developed that those for high voltage AC cables. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the HVDC cables and to propose a better-developed set of tests. This is of particular interest in respect to new generations of HVDC cables which have higher operating voltages and higher power transmission capacities.
