摘要

The study is a multi-year, basin-wide research effort to help resource managers211u001eassess the status of benthic fishes, and to evaluate how channel and flow 211u001ealteration affects Missouri River fishes. Benthic fishes are targeted because 211u001ethey include most species listed as 'at risk' of extinction by resource agencies, 211u001eand important recreational and commercial fishes. Data from the entire Missouri 211u001eand Lower Yellowstone rivers will be useful for river managers because factors 211u001eassociated with healthy populations of fishes in one area of the river may 211u001eprovide the best model for conservation in other areas. Overall research 211u001eobjectives are to: (1) describe and evaluate recruitment, growth, size structure, 211u001ebody condition, and relative abundance of selected benthic fishes, (2) measure 211u001ephysical habitat features in dominant habitats where fishes are collected, and 211u001e(3) describe the use of cominant habitats by benthic fishes.
