摘要

The purse-seine fishery for tuna in the eastern tropical Pacific (ETP) Ocean results in the mortality of several species of cetaceans. The primary species affected are spotted dolphins, Stenella attenuata, spinner dolphins, Stenella longirostris, and common dolphins, Delphinus delphis (Smith 1983, Wahlen 1986, Lennert and Hall 1995, Wade 1995). The northeastern stock of spotted dolphins and the eastern subspecies of spinner dolphins have been so reduced in size that they have been declared depleted under the U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act.
