The increase in North Carolina population in the last decade has been accompaniedby a larger demand for housing in rural and around major municipalities with no access to a public sewage system. Septic tank-soil absorpton systems provide a viable option for managing domestic sewage; however, not all the soil in North Carolina are suitable for septic systems. The general objective of this research was to evaluate low-pressure pipe (LPP) and drip systems for the disposal of treated and untreated wastewater and assess a spray irrigation system for surface disposal of treated effluent by an aerobic treatment unit (ATU).
