摘要

High velocity splinters and fragments are the major causes of injury and incapacitation on the battlefield, and for this reason great effort has been devoted to the development of protection against them. The terminal ballistic properties of fiber composite pannels of various compositions are described in this report. Experiment methods for determination of the high strain rate properties are described, and various models for description of the penetration process are treated. Particular attention has been devoted to a discussion of methods available for the measurement of dynamic mechanical properties, as these are not generally well-known, in particular those methods applicable to fiber composites with polymer matrices. A number of penetration models that are more or less physically realistic are reviewed in this report.
