摘要

U.S. blueberry ouput from the six major blueberry-producing States in 1992-94averaged nearly 192 million pounds per year, including Maine's wild blueberry output. The largest concentration of cultivated blueberry production is located in Michigan and New Jersey, with substantial production in North Carolina, Oregon, and Washington. Blueberry production in these States has risen nearly 70 percent since the early 1980's. Maine provided nearly half of the processed blueberries in 1992-94, while Michigan accounted for one-fourth. New Jersey and Michigan provided the most fresh blueberries. Per capita consumption of fresh blueberries increased about 40 percent since the early 1980's, and frozen consumption more than doubled. U.S.-grown blueberries are typically marketed from May through September. Prices show a very pronounced seasonal pattern, with the lowest proces at mid-season.
