This report presents research aimed at the isolation and characterization offlavenoids from a leguminous plant R. chalepensis, an annual shrub, widely distributed in the Potohar, N.W.F.P, and Azad Kashmir. An ab inito analysis revealed that the leaves and stems of this plant had the same flavonoid pattern; however, the former were significantly richer than the latter. By making use of the conventional and some of the recently developed separation techniques, a total of ten flavonoid compounds were isolated from the leaves of R.chalepensis. Their identification was achieved by chromatographic and spectroscopic methods such as: Rf values, U.V, MS NMR etc.
