摘要

Private investment in 1992 continued a five-year upward trend in developingcountries, a trend that reflects a number of related factors that have encouraged private sector activities: economic liberalizations in an increasing number of countries, a renewed emphasis on private markets in the provision of goods and services and, not least, respectable economic growth rates in several developing countries. Foreign direct investment flows also exhibited continued rapid growth. In contrast, public investment in the sample of countries reviewed remains at low levels, as compared with the period of the late 1970s and even with levels of the mid-1980s.
