摘要

This report present the results of a two year study examining the biota andgroundwater of Illinois caves. Ninety eight caves, mines, pits, and springs were examined in 13 counties throughout four karst regions of Illinois. Extensive faunal inventories were conducted at each site, water samples were collected from 55 sites and aquatic cave invertebrates from 5 sites were chemically analyzed. Preliminary results of chemical analyses show some interesting trends, but no cases of severe chemical contamination. Correlations between water quality and the cave biota await the specific identifications of organisms collected.
