摘要

The purpose of this research proposal was to define relationships betweenmeasures of cerebral physiology and structural damage to the injured human brain. The former was assessed by sensory evoked responses and by a new methodology of quantitative electroencephalography that maps numerous electrical variables two dimensionally throughout the brain. The electrophysiological brain maps using these variables are then compared to structural damage defined by computerized tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance image (MRI) scans of the brain. The hypothesis to be tested was that the physiological abnormalities found in acutely brain injured patients will be more profound than the structural measures and will better relate to outcome and disability. Findings are presented in this final report.
