摘要

This report is designed to supplement the President's Fiscal Year 1994 Budget. Itwas prepared by the Committee on Life Sciences and Health (CLSH) and its Biotechnology Research Subcommittee (BRS), which is part of the Federal Coordinating Council for Science, Engineering, and Technology (FCCSET). Biotechnology has been identified by the President and Vice President as one of the key areas of technology that will help provide a sound base for future economic growth and strength in America. The BRS is currently developing a strategy for more focussed and selective multi-agency planning directed to a few key areas in biotechnology. Planning will focus on specific issues within the areas of (1) manufacturing, bioprocessing, and energy; (2) environmental biotechnology; and (3) agricultural biotechnology.
