摘要

The TransNET West Study will try to answer four basic questions of concern to thepublic and private sectors and those involved in capturing the economic momentum created by expanding North American trade areas. Objectives and tasks aimed at those questions are: (1) What are the current and historical trends of trade and transportation along the U.S.-Mexico and western U.S.-Canada border regions; (2) What are the major issues and trends which affect current and future movements of goods and people and their implications for transportation planning and strategic economic development decisions; (3) What are the projections for future trade and transportation demand within western North America; (4) What changes can be made by the private and public sectors on a continental/regional basis to support 'geographically indivisible' regional planning and investment strategies.
