Regulations codified at 42 CFR 493.17, implementing the Clinical LaboratoryImprovement Amendments of 1988, require the Secretary to provide for the categorization of specific clinical laboratory test systems, assays, and examinations by level of complexity. The criteria for such categorization are also set forth in those regulations. The Notice announces the compiled list of specific clinical laboratory test systems, assays, and examinations categorized by complexity. The list includes the compilation of a series of four partial test lists that were previously published in the Federal Register as part of the on-going process of test categorization.
