The Salinian block is one of many Cordilleran suspect terranes for which an exotic place of origin relative to North America has been suggested based on the low inclinations determined from paleomagnetic analyses of Upper Cretaceous and Paleocene strata. The Salinian block consists of high-grade metamorphic and deep-seated granitic rocks overlain by Upper Cretaceous and Tertiary sedimentary rocks. In the report, conglomerate compositions in Upper Cretaceous and lower Tertiary rocks of the Salinian block are examined and compared with those of nearby regions as a way of evaluating the place of origin of the Salinian block.
