摘要

The topical report summarizes the work performed during the first phase of athree phase contract funded by GRI. The objective of the program is to develop an improved gas sensor system for accurate 'on-line' monitoring of combustion species aimed to improve the efficiency of gas-fired combustion systems. Phase I of the program was the feasibility analysis of the proposed fiber optic multi-gas sensor. The analysis included: (1) a comprehensive literature search of research being performed in the areas of combustion diagnostics and fiber optic sensors, (2) a gas sensor vendor survey to evaluate the potential use of commercially available gas sensors for 'on-line' stack gas analysis, and (3) an optical fiber evaluation, including temperature testing of selected fiber samples and evaluation of fiber optic materials which are currently under development. Phase II of the program will entail fabrication and testing of a proof-of-concept fiber optic sensor system.
