In many u22real worldu22 contingencies, performance requirements for delivery of reinforcers seem to be of minor importance relative to the additional contingency that determines their incentive value. The main purpose was to demonstrate behavior change within a single brief session when reward magnitude depended upon timing rather than frequency of responses. In Experiment 1, delivery of reinforcers was determined by a differential reinforcement of low rate (drl-) 1 O-sec schedule, but the number of points depended on where the response fell within a 9-sec limited hold (LH). In Experiment 2, points were earned on a continuous reinforcement (crf) schedule, but the number was contingent on interresponse time (IRT). Performance was influenced in keeping with the contingencies. It was suggested that special instances involving response-contingent incentive value should be assembled under some identifying rubric.
