Análisis comparativo de los métodos de diseño sismorresistente basado en fuerzas y basado en desplazamientos para edificaciones en el Ecuador

摘要

Seismic design is an essential factor to consider when dealing with the design and construction of any building in Ecuador. Since the field is relatively young, several trends have appeared in the last years which include performance based design. In the present investigation, the difference between two methods of seismic analysis and design are studied: Force Based Design DBF, and Displacement-Based Design (DDBD), both described in Ecuadorian Construction Code NEC. Nine frames are analyzed which vary in height; 4, 8 and 12 stories, as in structural configuration; regular, irregular and with structural walls. All frames are designed using ETABS 13 for each method to find the differences between obtained deformations and quantity of material used. NEC requirements for buildings located in Quito are used, with proper seismic and soil characteristics, and analysis conditions. To this purpose, inelastic models of the buildings are made with the computational package Ruaumoko2D, to establish variation in the real behavior with the expected thru DDBD. This way, a comparison between the effectiveness of each method for every building analyzed is established.
