The role that well-funded libraries play in both the economic and educational development of any state cannot be overstated. South Carolina’s 2003 – 2007 LSTA dollars ($11,857,247) played a pivotal role in both areas. 90% of South Carolina’s public libraries participated in the LSTA program during the five-year evaluation period. 85% of those responding to South Carolina State Library’s Five-Year Plan Evaluation Survey were either public library or partner organization recipients of LSTA sub grant funding; 68% said there was an increase in local financial support because of LSTA funds.
