The thesis presents the feasibility study of two variants of construction of expressway Koper - Dragonja through the Škocjanski hill. Two alternatives - the cut & cover tunnel and drill and blast tunnel - are compared from technical and economical point of view.udThe theoretical introduction brings the overview of technical solutions for tunnel construction under shallow overburden. Examples of completed projects in Slovenia are presented and selected theoretical topics from rock mechanics are briefly described.udThe following chapter brings the description of road parameters and geological and geomechanical properties of defined sector. On the basis of technical calculations the support and dimensions of structural elements are selected for cut & cover tunnel and for drill and blast tunnel according to Eurocode standard. Cost estimation was made for both variants.udOn the basis of presented technical and economic analyses we can conclude that drill and blast tunnel is better choice than cut & cover tunnel.udud
